One reason Netroots Nation is coming to Pittsburgh is the incredible range of work being done here in sustainability, green jobs, green buildings and building equity. This session lets some of the folks doing great work in the area share their perspectives on Pittsburgh's role as a model of post-industrial revitalization through sustainability.

Celeste Taylor

Celeste Taylor, a native of Pittsburgh, graduated from University of Pittsburgh. Current positions, Director of Regional Equity Monitoring Project, PA Voice’s Director of Election Administration/Protection. She worked for People For the American Way/Foundation, Good Schools PA, Project Vote-ACORN, and NAACP NVF. Taylor received the New Pittsburgh Courier 50 Women of Influence & Excellence, League of Women Voters Good Government and YWCA Racial Justice Awards and serves on Pittsburgh Green Innovators, Black Political Empowerment Project, Black and White Reunion board. Taylor has four sons, one grandson, member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

Mark Dixon

Mark graduated from Stanford University in 1997, then followed his dreams into the Internet boom, working for two start-up companies in Silicon Valley. "Inspired" by global warming and resource depletion, Mark co-founded YERT - Your Environmental Road Trip - which launched from Pittsburgh in 2007. YERT (yert.com) is 50-state video road trip to personalize sustainability in America, releasing videos online to share the team's adventures, including unique "road rules" eco-challenges (like never throwing away garbage), visits to environmentally significant destinations, and interviews with over 800 leaders, researchers, and citizens. A YERT feature film is currently in development.

Billy Wimsatt

Wimsatt founded The League of Young Voters, co-founded the Generational Alliance and over his career has helped move more than $8 million to grassroots organizing. In 2008, he ran the Ohio Youth Corps for the Ohio Democratic Party / Obama For America. He has written for Vibe, Chicago Tribune and published five books with 100,000 in print including No More Prisons, Winner of the 1999 Firecracker Book Award. He has spoken at Harvard, Yale, MIT, and Stanford, was named by Utne Magazine as "Utne Visionary," to The Source Magazine's "Power 30."
