Netroots Nation and New Media Mentors are excited to welcome Elana Levin to our staff. She has joined Netroots Nation as Director of Trainings and it’s partner New Media Mentors as Program Director to lead our year-round training programs for progressive organizations and activists.
For twelve years, Elana has worked as a trainer in online strategy and as a digital strategist for labor unions, nonprofits and grassroots campaigns (and has attended Netroots Nation every year since it began as Yearly Kos). She’ll be speaking at Netroots 2017 at her panel, A Whole New Wooorld: Organizing in Pop Culture Communities, at 3pm in Regency V.
Most recently Elana served as Director of Online Organizing at Make the Road—the largest immigrant-lead community organization in the NY region. In 2009, she co-founded Organizing 2.0, the leading online organizing conference and year-round training hub for nonprofits and unions in the New York area training over 3,000 organization staff, members and activists.
Elana has also worked at the intersection of popular culture and online organizing for over a decade. She hosts the #PopPoliticsChat tweetchat series with Culture Lab and co-hosts Graphic Policy Radio podcasts (“where comics and politics meet”). Her mission: connecting community organizers with pop culture creators and fans and applying the lessons of storytelling to the fight for social and economic justice.
She previously served as Director of Communications for the Writers Guild of America East.
Elana tweets about comics, dad rock, organizing and NY politics @Elana_Brooklyn. Constantly.
