As we all know, at the foundation of organizing is relationship building. But, with an overwhelming amount of channels used to communicate with folks, how can we actually cut through the noise and meaningfully engage our communities? Peer-to-peer texting has surfaced as an effective way to do just that.
At Hustle we’ve seen unions, advocacy organizations, and campaigns use peer-to-peer texting to engage members, supporters, and the broader community to take action on progressive issues.
During this panel, we’ll explore the ways in which organizations are prioritizing relationship building with peer-to-peer texting in key moments at scale. Learn from a few peer-to-peer texting pros about how we can build relationships that last and leverage p2p technology with other organizing tools to win on our issues.

Panelists
Jocelyn Strauss
Jocelyn Strauss is a Senior Client Success Manager for Mobilize, working with electoral, advocacy, and union clients. She has a background in Gun Violence Prevention for six and a half years, working with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America as an Organizing Manager building state chapters from the ground up, and Everytown for Gun Safety, as a Senior Data Manager, building a P2P texting program, a data training program a Learning Management System, as well as developing Virtual Distributed Organizing program, building out c3 organizing programs, and supporting chapter growth and volunteer management.
Jocelyn is a native of Tucson, Arizona, but currently calls Washington, DC home with her husband, two kids, two dogs, and cat. She has a background in cultural and medical anthropology, with a BA from the University of Arizona. She has a passion for movement building and empowering volunteers to become leaders in their community, and building communities.
Chrystian Woods
Chrystian Woods is the Deputy Executive Director for the Democratic Party of Georgia and the current acting Executive Director. She most recently served as the Director of Organizing and Outreach for the DPG, and the Deputy Field Director for the 2016 Georgia Together Coordinated Campaign. Chrystian is responsible for directly managing the efforts that flipped major counties such as Cobb and Gwinnett Democratic during the 2016 Presidential election cycle.
A native Georgian, Chrystian holds a B.A. in Political Science from Georgia Southern University. She is passionate about electoral politics, southern organizing and serving communities of color.
Sissi Yado
Sissi is a Texas Regional Field Organizer with the Human Rights Campaign. A native of the Rio Grande Valley, queer and Latinx, they are based out of Austin and continue to mobilize to elect pro-equality candidates and protect current or pass needed Non Discrimination Ordinances, also known as Non Discrimination Protections (NDOs & NDPs) inclusive of gender identity and sexual orientation.
Their experience with field campaigns and community organizing spans 6 years working on local, state, and national assignments. During the 85th Texas Legislative Session and Special Session in 2017, they led hundreds of volunteers, including HRC members, LGBTQIA+ community leaders, and allies to take action and stop more than 30 anti-LGBTQ bills, including the anti-transgender “Bathroom Bill.”
You may have also heard of Sissi creating opportunities with trans and queer PoC while serving as a State Manager during the Summer of Action in Arizona (2016), a transgender prejudice reduction research and messaging test done in partnership with LGBTQ advocacy groups and University of Berkeley researchers.
