What’s working—and what isn’t—when it comes to social media outreach to women? This panel will focus on successful case studies and tips for effective engagement, as well as what backfires when trying to persuade these influencers to support your efforts.

Joanne Bamberger, author, journalist, political/media strategist & recovering attorney, is the author of Mothers of Intention: How Women & Social Media are Revolutionizing Politics in America. She is the publisher of The Broad Side, a digital magazine of women’s commentary. A new media expert & authority on women’s political involvement, Joanne has written for AOL’s Politics Daily, CNN.com, USA Today, the Washington Post, & more. Her commentary has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Good Morning America, among others. Joanne was awarded the 2013 Campaign Tech Advocacy Innovator award for her research/writing on the direct & indirect affect women in non-political online venues have on political & policy discussion. In 2011, she was one of Working Mother Magazine’s Most Powerful Women in Social Media & was nominated for the Women’s Media Center Social Media Award. As a consultant, she works with various organizations to connect them women online influencers.

Carol Jenkins is an award-winning writer, producer and media consultant. She is a sought-after speaker and writer on issues relating to the media, specifically the participation of women and people of color; women’s participation in the political and economic structures in the US; and the health of women in developing countries, particularly on the African continent.
An Emmy-winning former television journalist, she was founding president and board member of The Women’s Media Center, the groundbreaking non-profit aimed at increasing coverage and participation of women in the media.
Her distinguished journalism career includes anchoring the evening news for WNBC-TV, hosting her own daily talk show, Carol Jenkins Live, and covering presidential and mayoral politics. Her award winning international reporting included the release of Nelson Mandela from prison in South Africa.
