Whether it’s for digital or print, visual designers make decisions that affect your decisions every day. Why do you stop and look at some billboards, but not others? Why did you decide to not recycle one of those political mailers you got? We’ll cover how humans process visual information and what can movitate them to act. This training will cover the basics of photo-based design and help you improve your understanding of the many visual communications that surround you. We’ll end the session designing something together, live!
This training is for both beginners/non-designers as well as intermediate designers/communication professionals who want to improve their design and communication skills.
Moderators
Candice Dayoan
Candice is an award-winning Vice President of Creative for 50+1 Strategies, a civic engagement, campaign strategy, management, and community mobilization consulting firm based in Oakland, CA. In 2019, she was honored by the American Association of Political Consultants as a Top 40 under 40 Winner. She specializes in print design and has won several national awards for her logo, billboard, and mailer designs.

Chris McNeil
Chris McNeil is a Senior Graphic Designer at Resonance Campaigns. 2020 is Chris’ tenth electoral cycle, with previous stints at Stearns Consulting, Kaufman Campaigns, Campaign Workshop and the DCCC. If you’re a Democrat, Chris begs that you preview digital ads on a smartphone; if you’re a Republican, desktop screens are fine. He suspects the hype re: Instagram Stories is legit. Chris’ favorite Tik Tok is @tootymcnooty. His daughter Violet is a year old and was not named for the 2018 Pantone Color of the Year. That just sort of happened.
