Saturday Follow-at-home Guide

Saturday Follow-at-home Guide

Friday’s highlights included a keynote conversation with Rep. Pramila Jayapal and Sen. Jeff Merkley and remarks from Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s Dr. Leana Wen, Restaurant Opportunities Center’s Saru Jayaraman, Working Hero’s Joe Sandberg, Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs, and OnePA organizer Munira Edens-McClean.

After the morning breakouts, Netroots attendees took to the streets for a locally led action taking a stand against immigrant detention and white supremacy. The march was a part of the nationwide “Lights For Liberty” action to raise awareness of the concentration camps along the U.S. southern border. Activists demanded an end to the funding of immigrant detention centers and a push for those funds to instead be used to improve communities in Philadelphia.
During the keynote, speakers laid out a progressive vision for our country—one that’s rooted in justice, equality and sustainability. “I’m 29 years old and I struggle with the fact that in 2019, we’re still answering the same questions about sexual harassment and whether climate change is real,” said Stockton CA Mayor Michael Tubbs. “A progressive vision for 2020 has to say: enough is enough.”
Rep. Jayapal said: “We have to make sure that we have a spine, and that we keep a spine and that we push for the things that we really believe in.”
