Knowing how to talk to voters about critical issues like race, health care and health inequities, taxes, abortion, and immigration begins with an accurate understanding of how the mind and brain work. Join us for a messaging training that’s grounded in cutting edge psychology and neuroscience, as well as 15+ years of message testing on a range of issues. We’ll talk about how to avoid using linguistic constructions such as “the unemployed,” which turn real people into abstractions. To elicit empathy or concern, use “people who …” constructions. For example: “People who’ve lost their jobs through no fault of their own.” We’ll dig into the language of race talk about how many of the words, phrases, and narratives we use are playing into the hands of the right.
