Session Type(s): Plenary
Starts: Friday, Jul. 17 2:45 PM (Eastern)
Ends: Friday, Jul. 17 4:45 PM (Eastern)
Directly after the morning keynote, we’ll march to the 4th Avenue Jail for an #ArpaioFreeAZ rally. Sheriff Joe Arpaio was granted one of the first and most extensive police-ICE collaboration contracts in the country in 2007, which paved the way for SB1070 and similar policies and laws across the country. Even though Arpaio is facing civil and criminal contempt charges in court, ICE agents are still stationed at the 4th Avenue Jail. The federal government continues to deport Arpaio’s victims even as a lawsuit initiated against Arpaio by the Department of Justice will be heard in court on August 10. It’s time for Arpaio to resign and take his legacy with him.
